Currently living in Ithaca, New York, Ed is from the Bronx, New York City, where he lived for 25 years in the shadow of Yankee Stadium. His first job: peanut vendor. Ed worked for several years in one of the most devastated areas of the South Bronx with the New York City Department of Social Services. There he got his post-graduate street education from the variety of savvy drug addict mentors and ex-convicts on his caseload.

That experience helped him years later to serve successfully as the chief school psychologist for the Massena Central School District in upstate New York after getting his Master's degree in Education Psychology from Saint Lawrence University (Canton, NY). Focusing on the children and youth in the 2500 student population with the most severe emotional and behavioral problems, Ed led a variety of behavior management workshops for the district's parents and teachers. He was recognized in upstate New York as a tireless advocate for the human rights of both children and adults as he collaborated with staff at psychiatric facilities and juvenile treatment centers, and with counselors, social workers, judges, and probation and parole officers.

Desiring to have greater impact on the lives of children and youth, Ed moved on to teach graduate education courses throughout New York State for the College of Saint Rose. He reached thousands of educators with subject matter rooted in practical methods for helping students to achieve self-discipline and to demonstrate respectful treatment of others; his courses included: Communication Skills, Group Dynamics, Conflict Management in the Classroom, Fostering Self-Discipline. As adjunct faculty for Syracuse University's Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, Ed also led workshops for the Summer Institute for Non-Violent Conflict and Change.

For the past thirty years as a senior trainer, curriculum designer, and trainer-coach for Ridge Training (Cazenovia, NY), Ed has consulted with Fortune 500 companies throughout the United States and Canada: Citicorp, Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, Eastman Kodak, and United Health Group. With those clients he leads such "people skills" workshops as Team Facilitation Skills, Effective Coaching, Conflict Management, and Results-Based Listening.

As an exceptional group facilitator, Ed has been called in to calm the emotions of hundreds of returning-to-work striking workers, to mediate a divisive ten-year rift between 100 priests and their bishop, to create a collaborative contract negotiation process for a county government with the local union, to be a listening coach for a brilliant top executive about to be fired for his abrasive way with people.

Ed's subject-matter knowledge and warm, engaging personal style allow him to build strong rapport and respect easily and equally with factory workers, corporate executives, and teenagers. All people, from all backgrounds, are moved by his quiet, passionate belief that a few common sense communication tools, with the right attitude and heart, can transform any relationship.
